About Us

Evidence Quartet is based in Orange County, California and proudly sings southern gospel music. Evidence Quartet is a member of the WSGMA (Western States Gospel Music Association) and the CCSGMA (Central California Southern Gospel Music Association). Our commitment is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through music.

Evidence Quartet was started in August of 2005 by our beloved founder, accompanist & manager – Rose Charlotte Ball. Charlotte was an inspiration from the beginning and her loving leadership & godly guidance has served this ministry very well. Though Charlotte went to her eternal home in heaven on September 4, 2015, she prepared this ministry to continue on for years to come and we soldier on never forgetting our heritage and our purpose of ministry.

For over a decade, Evidence Quartet has been blessed to share our music, testimonies, and faith in our loving Father in heaven and our Savior, Jesus Christ. We know that His promises are true and faithful. So, while we have suffered the loss of our founder and earthly leader, we rejoice in knowing that Charlotte waits in heaven for a glad reunion with us. We invite you to join us in our musical journey here on earth and join us in the celebration in heaven that awaits the followers of Jesus Christ.

Evidence Quartet has always been focused on ministry and communicating the simplicity of the Gospel through music. We are available to deliver that message through church services, concerts, banquets, and other forums. We have been fortunate to travel to many areas of California and Arizona and welcome the opportunity to visit where the Lord leads us.

We serve in many different settings including: concerts, church worship services, revival meetings, special church events, group meetings, and conventions. Whatever the setting, EVIDENCE attempts to be sensitive to the needs and desires of our hosts. We work closely with pastors, music directors, and group liaisons to ensure that the needs of our hosts, their members, and guests are met as we worship the Lord in songs and actions.

Meet the Evidence Quartet
photo of Brenda Coogan

Brenda Coogan, Charlotte Ball’s daughter, has been singing Gospel music since the age of three. Always with a song in her heart and on her lips, Brenda has gained musical ability from a variety of different experiences including singing in several large and small groups, leading a youth choir, leading worship, and performing in live musical theater. Brenda resides in Yorba Linda and is particularly thrilled to have the opportunity to sing in another group with her husband, Gordon. Her favorite hobby is scrapbooking and she loves relaxing with her hobby in her craft room. You'll see Brenda grinning the biggest whenever she's in the presence of her grandchildren.

Gordon Coogan loved singing and music from an early age. His first formal singing experience beyond the shower was as a member of his 6th grade choir - despite his mother's impassioned and embarrassing pleas to the director and principal to let him in early when he was a mere 5th grader. From then through college, Gordon participated in choral music, musical theater, and small group singing - including singing lead for in a college quartet. Though Gordon was always attracted to the sounds of Gospel music, the message of it never truly reached him until he committed his life to Jesus Christ at the age of 30. Since then, his musical endeavors have been blessed in ways he never imagined. The Lord has allowed him to direct several choral groups, appear on stage in numerous lead roles in musicals, and serve as worship leader for several local ministries. Being part of Evidence Quartet is now the icing on the cake.

Bob Hughes was raised on a farm in Chehalis, Washington, and grew up singing hymns along with the congregation in church. He learned vocal performance in high school and college and sang in several selective ensembles. His past experience includes serving as tenor section lead/soloist for First Friends Church in Whittier and singing lead for the Cross Road Quartet for six years. Bob and his wife Dianne live in Diamond Bar. In his day job, Bob is the Chief Information Services Officer at Citrus College in Glendora. He considers himself blessed to be able to share his love of music and his faith in God with Evidence.

Gil Ramirez, Jr. had his first singing gig about age 6 in a children’s cantata. It was a Spanish church where he had the role of Jesus in the story of the 'Good Samaritan'. In a different cantata the following year he played the boy who caught the fish that fed the 5000. Gil grew up listening to and loving Southern Gospel music. While his dad was at work, his mom always had music playing, whether it was Christian radio or vinyl records. Early influences include The Blackwood Brothers, The Statesmen, The Imperials along with other well known groups of the day. At the age of 10, Gil experienced God’s presence at a Californians’ concert. It made such an impression on him that it would later lead Gil to touch lives through music as well! Through life’s ups and downs, Gil has seen God’s hand ever present. He is excited to share that wonderful hope through music and testimony. Gil and his wife Susan reside in Riverside.

Charlotte Ball was our lovely leader, orchestra, & founder; as mentioned elsewhere on our website, Charlotte went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 4, 2015. We felt it only fitting to keep these details here as she was the catalyst to the ministry. Charlotte spent most of her life playing piano for church services and accompanying choirs, quartets, ensembles, soloists, etc. Charlotte served as the President of the Gospel Quartet Society and accompanied the G.Q.S. Choir on the piano. G.Q.S. concentrated on Southern Gospel quartet music and spent many years singing in retirement homes, churches, etc. As a founding member of Jericho Quartet of Southern California, Charlotte served as their pianist for seven years until forming Evidence Quartet. Her versatility of style was a great asset to Evidence Quartet and allowed us the luxury of not only live accompaniment for concerts, but to adjust most any song to a proper key for our voices – pretty much doing so at will with no sheet music to work with on almost all of our songs. Charlotte, who lived in Yorba Linda, also taught piano privately in her home, which allowed her to pass that gifting along to generations to come. She is sorely missed and dearly remembered by all that knew her.
